Gymnast Louis Smith was the guest of honour when he launched a new website encouraging youngsters to adopt healthy lifestyles.
Louis, from Peterborough, who won a bronze medal for Great Britain at the 2008 Olympic Games, launched the new yougo4it website at Witchford Village College on 30th April.
During the website launch, Louis demonstrated his skills on the pommel horse, as well as took part in question and answer sessions with pupils. At lunchtime, Louis joined a group of pupils, the school principal, David Taylor, and other staff for a school lunch provided by Cambridgeshire Catering and Cleaning Service (CCS).
Mr Taylor said: "We are really excited about hosting the launch of the new website and welcoming Louis Smith into our school. Healthy eating and exercise is vital for all young people and I believe role models like Louis Smith can play an important part in educating them. We work closely with Cambridgeshire Catering and Cleaning Service to ensure that what is taught in the class room is available at lunchtime and initiatives like this website are very important to reinforce these messages."
The website - www.yougo4it.co.uk/cambridgeshire has been developed by school meals provider, CCS, to encourage young people to make healthy choices about their food and lifestyles. It features competitions, podcasts, advice and blogs from Louis and other athletes, including Olympic diver Tom Daley and heptathlete Lucy Boggis, all of whom will be giving guidance on their training and nutrition regimes.
