Solutions SK Ltd, Stockport Council’s wholly owned company, is celebrating after winning a much sought after national award.
TheSchool Catering team from Solutions SK has been awarded the RoSPA silver award following extensive work to reduce accidents in school kitchens.
The RoSPA Awards scheme is not only about reducing thenumber of accidents and cases of ill-health at work; it also encouragesorganisations to develop robust health and safety management systems.
TheSchool Catering team worked closely with Solutions SK’s Health &Safety team to improve the health and safety management system. They introduced the Health and Safety Executive’s (HSE) approved method for floor cleaning. The team also risk assessed over 100 kitchen floors and issued safety overshoes with a slip resistant grip to employees.

Weput health and safety at the centre of everything we do at Solutions SK. The School Catering team has worked well with the Health and Safety Officer to implement systems that are very effective.”
Followingthe introduction of the new floor cleaning technique and the safety overshoes, there has been a 50% reduction in accidents involving slips, trips and falls in school kitchens.
